Stoic philosopher Seneca said that fools all have one thing in common: They are always getting ready to start. Always getting ready to change. Always getting ready to live.
And then, what happens? Nothing, usually. They make the plans, but they never get around to doing the work. They talk, but they never walk.
The easy part is making the resolutions, setting the goals, and casting the vision. The challenge is in plowing through the day-to-day drudgery.
Epictetus said, “Neither a bull nor a noble-spirited man comes to be what he is all at once; he must undertake hard winter training, and prepare himself.”
Today is a day of hard winter training. It must be spent preparing ourselves for the persons we’ll become.
Let your eyes look directly ahead And let your gaze be fixed straight in front of you. (Proverbs 4:25)
