Carry That Weight

Carry That Weight

We were never meant to carry that weight all by ourselves. But it doesn’t stop us from trying.

When life gets heavy we typically do our best to bear each burden alone, stumbling and bumbling as we go.

But that’s not how it’s supposed to be. We’re called to help one another along the way. This is fundamental to following Jesus. Paul said…

Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ. (Galatians 6:2)

What does carrying another’s burden look like? It’s not about having all the answers. In fact, it rarely involves giving advice. Neither is it about solving their every problem, as if you could.

Much of the time, bearing someone’s burdens just means you’re there. You’re present. You listen and you nod. And you do whatever little thing you can do. Even the smallest gesture can make some mountains movable.

We each carry a weight, every day. Sometimes it’s great, sometimes it’s small, but it’s always there.

The same can be said for whoever’s path you’ll cross today. They’ve got a weight on their shoulders as well.

Maybe you can set your own burden aside, just for a moment. while you lend a hand to lighten their load.

The book of Ecclesiastes says, “Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil. For if they fall, one will lift up his fellow. But woe to him who is alone when he falls and has not another to lift him up!” (Ecclesiastes 4:9-10)

Sometimes we all need someone. Today let’s seek to be someone.
