When sports writer Bert Sugar interviewed heavy weight boxing champion Floyd Patterson, he mentioned that Patterson had been knocked down more than any other heavyweight champion in history.
Patterson’s reply was, “Yeah, but I also got up more than any other fighter in history.” Floyd was on to something.
Luke tells a story about a group of fishermen who had spent the night fishing, but had caught nothing. Jesus came along and said, “Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch.”
Peter began to object, as he was prone to do, then finally said, “Because you say so, I will let down the nets.”
I’m sure you know what happened next. They caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to break. (Luke 5:4-6)
The disciples learned a powerful lesson that day. There’s power in trying again. It’s the secret to success in most any endeavor: Keep casting your net.
God can redeem a failure, but he can’t do much with a quitter.
Have you been knocked more than anyone else?
You can still get up one more time.
Have you cast your net more times than you can count?
Dare to cast it again.
You’ll be amazed at what can happen when you decide you’ll never quit.
