The angel Gabriel spoke these words to Mary…
“Greetings, you who are highly favored. The Lord is with you…” (Luke 1:28)
“Do not be afraid, Mary. You have found favor with God.” (Luke 1:30)
Before this, Mary was just a teenage girl living with her family in Nazareth, preparing to marry Joseph. She probably had no ambitions beyond caring for her home and her family. She was a poor, simple woman. By the world’s standards, insignificant.
But with God there is no such thing as insignificant. There is no one on this planet whom he doesn’t see, or doesn’t know, or doesn’t love.
You may be poor and desperate, lacking education and resources, tucked away in an obscure, out of the way place. But with God, you’re never obscure or insignificant. He has a place for you. A plan for you. And he is willing to pour out his favor upon you.
When you put yourself in his care, through trust and obedience, he will put you in your place, so to speak. The place where you belong, the place of God’s favor.
There are two aspects of God’s favor.
One, the blessings of a good life.
Two, the opportunity to do great things.
In Mary’s case, she did the greatest thing of all in giving birth to our Savior.
In your case, it means that God will use to touch the lives of those around you, to encourage, inspire, and influence others in a myriad of ways. The favor of God means that he will bless you and he will use you.
So do not be afraid; you have found favor with God.
