Hello, and thanks for visiting. My name is Steve May. I’m the editor of About Sunday and the publisher of the Preaching Library books and cds. These are resources that I’ve been developing for the last 16 years; it’s been my privilege to share them with thousands of pastors throughout the world.

I’ve worked with a number of pastors over the years. I’ve seen how some of them have full-time research assistants, and some even have research teams to help them put their messages and series together. Their messages hit the target because they’re getting input and ideas from several different sources. One pastor told me that more than 100 man-hours of preparation goes into each message he preaches.

Most of us don’t have that luxury. The Bible tells us to learn to preach and teach from one another, but many pastors don’t have a resource available to meet that need. That’s where I come in. The messages and sermon illustrations that I and my staff have compiled over the years will jump start your creativity—they’ll help you see a passage of scripture from a new perspective, or help you develop an idea for a new series, or give you a handle on outlining a passage, and so on.

These messages are complete, fully manuscripted sermons. You’re free to use them in whatever way helps you best. Some messages you’ll lean on a little, some you’ll lean on a lot — either way, we’re here to help you accomplish the final goal: building up God’s people in the most holy faith.

If you don’t know me yet, maybe your first point of curiosity is, “Where is this guy coming from? Is he conservative or liberal? What are his messages like?”

Well, about my sermons, I guess the best thing to do is take a look at a few of them and see if my style of writing resonates with your approach to preaching.

As for my theology, I’m a conservative evangelical. I believe the Bible and I preach the Bible—more than 95% of my sermons are expository, focusing on the personal application of Biblical truth. I guess if any one word described the focus of my preaching, it would be Connection. My purpose in preaching is to help others connect with Jesus on a deeper level, and connect with one another in faithful, transparent relationships.

I’m actively involved in ministry beyond preaching and writing. For the past six years I’ve been a part of an exciting work in Rio de Janeiro, Brasil — we’ve helped plant a church and we’ve started an English school and a computer center. This year we’ll open a medical clinic. It’s one of the most fulfilling projects I’ve ever been a part of. Those of you who have been on the front lines like this know how it can transform your preaching. Right now I spend about half of my time in Rio. And by the way, I don’t mean to brag, but if you’ve never written a sermon while listening to the waves splashing on the shore as the South American sun sets on the mountains behind you—I encourage you to try it some time. What an experience.

My top priority, however, is serving you. My job is helping pastors and teachers get ready for Sunday. I know you don’t need me to write your sermons for you — but I also know that from time to time you, like all pastors, probably appreciate input and ideas from a like-minded soul who can give you a head-start on your next great idea. That’s why I’m here; that’s what I do.

If you like my stuff, maybe we’re a match. If so, great. While you’re here, be sure to take a look at our resources page. You’ll find a list of the material we have available for pastors. Also, be sure to sign up for the free Monday Memo, sent by email every week.

Thanks for taking a look around.
